Welcome to Triggered ..... A requiem of healing #thishappened
How do you access the mind of abused black and brown men?
Triggered is a multi sensory, multimedia, post-traumatic story that reveals the psyche of men in need of understanding, love and forgiveness. How exactly does trauma cast a shadow over the wholeness of black male selfhood? When the shared cultural values of black and brown communities demand that men suppress their vulnerability and meet with their psychology alone, what kind of masculine identity is constructed and how can we redefine it? How do we stop reinforcing a mythology that masquerades as nature?
Triggered follows a day in the life of two such men, one named Malik and the other named Keith. As they share their stories, we are forced to come to terms with how our urge to suppress, hide and lock away the experiences, thoughts and feelings that feed the very thing we most fear. Malik and Keith are played by Keith Mascoll SAG-AFTRA, AEA and is directed by John Oluwole Adekoje.
The “Triggered” experience is a 90 minute long tour de force followed by Talkbacks facilitated by mental health clinicians.
“Triggered is a powerful, and riveting monologue that needed to be shared to raise the awareness around childhood trauma and the implications of living through this pain and suffering in silence.” Lila Reid
We are proud to Announce that Triggered a one man show has been awarded it's 2nd Grant from the Boston Foundation. The Grant will help to continue develop this one man show, community discussions, and inner monologue work with black and brown boys/Men to help them express their deepest feelings.
